A rainy day gave Paul the chance to finish “fine-tuning” his plans for the chicken coop. We’re happy to offer these plans to you for free. Click here to view and download the free chicken coop plans. You can also right-click on the link and choose “save link as” to download them.
Please note that we do not have a materials list for these plans!
If you want to see this project going together, click here for the pics. If you don’t need a chicken coop, it could be a handy little garden storage shed.
Hey you all-
I downloaded the plans for the 4′ X 8′ coop, and fairly sure that this going to be a project. I do have a couple of questions:
1- The floor joists, are they 2″ X 6″? And,
2- Are there any dimensions on the nesting box. The plan I have does not seem to have this, though I did grab the nesting box plan and will modify to fit. Also there do not seem to be any roosting in this plan.
I am very new to all this and do appreciate any and all assistance.
Sincerely,
John Lea

I just love your birds. Bird is the name my parents and brother have called me for over 50 years, so I’m always looking at bird projects. Yours are lovely. Thanks for sharing them.
I want to build this for my daughter. But would like a materials list.
Is there one available?
There is no materials list drafted. Typically, if you take the plans to your local lumber store, they’ll pull it together for you if you don’t want to work through it on your own.
I’ve greatly enjoyed making your felt birds and animals, but didn’t expect yet another creative project to catch my fancy. The plan is to create a coop in 1:12 dollhouse scale to go along with a scale farmhouse I’m making. Thank you, Susan, for posting these simple plans…precisely what I needed.
Hello, my wife and I just bought a home with a small piece of property last year and one of the requirements was that we were able to have a chicken coop. We decided to start building one a few months ago and are nearing completion. We live in the far west suburbs of Chicago. Let me know where I can send pictures if you would like to see the small changes we made. Enjoyed building it and looking forward to getting some eggs. Thank you again for your plans they made the project easier.
Sincerely,
Shane and Krista.
Hello, first, I just want to say thank you for the plans and instructions on how to build this coop. I am planning on getting one built over winter so my wife and I can get it finalized and some chickens in spring. I was wondering if you had the direction on how you made the nesting box? I saw the other blue prints for a nesting box, but was hoping to make one like you did as it has the hinges/door so you can collect and check in from outside the coop. Also, we are new to the new England area (in western mass) and would love your opinion on the best breeds of chickens for this climate.
Thank you again,
Mark
We no longer have plans for the nesting box bump out. We removed that after a few years because of rot and have boxes near the clean out hatch and collect our eggs from the outside there. We’ve enjoyed barred rock chickens, orpingtons, buff orpingtons, bantams, and deleware. All have done well!
