This Joyful Owl in the Square is my latest submission for WHRL’s Winter Tree Festival. The felt owl (download the free pattern here) resides in a wood frame embellished with artificial pine, berries, and a lotus seed pod. Paul made the simple 12′ frame (outer dimension) out of scrap wood.
I painted the frame with “Elephant” chalk paint. When the first coat dried, I topped it with a coat of Waverly “Plaster” chalk paint. When the entire thing dried, I wiped some of the lighter color off with a damp rag to give the frame a weathered look. The owl is perched on a stiff wire that is hot-glued into a hole drilled in the top edge of the bottom rung. I hot-glued the pine, berries, and seed pod into place.
A different twist on a wreath that can be displayed all year long.
I Love this Joyful Owl! I hope to make 3 – one for each of my daughters and of course, one for me!!! Thank you for your wonderful patterns… I just finished one of the bluebird ornaments for a friend’s 85th birthday!
That’s delightful!
