ginormous ottoman

Before the holidays, I purchased this ginormous square ottoman to help extend the sofa. When Hannah’s home it allows us to both stretch out comfortably for movies or The Great British Bakeoff marathons.

The challenge then became what to do with the coffee table. Purchased from the discount room of a local furniture store 14 years ago, it has served its purpose; a catchall, a footrest, a place to build Lego creations, and put together puzzles. I never particularly liked the rounded ends, but the price was right. But with the addition of the ottoman, it just didn’t work anymore.

old coffee table

I spent hours online searching for small coffee tables and ultimately decided that after splurging on the ottoman, a new coffee table would have to wait. And then I got to thinking. The table is wood and the only thing wrong with it is the size (and the rounded ends). I did some measuring and showed Paul what I had in mind.

reconstructed wood coffee table

Paul disassembled the coffee table, cut it down to size (with straight ends), and reassembled it. And he did this when it was brrrr cold in the unheated garage. Paul (and his tools) are quite handy to have around. ❤ You can watch him work on it here.

repurposed coffee table

I’m living with it as is for the moment as I contemplate the end piece. Nothing in my house was purchased with any great plan, so there’s no theme to follow. I’m leaning toward painting it as we have a lot of stained wood with the floors and trim. But what color? Oh, the possibilities.
