There have been reports of a snowy owl wintering at Nubble Light at Cape Neddic as recently as a week ago. Leaving Portland heading south, I passed the exit for Cape Neddic. Do I stop? Do I keep going? Will I regret it if I don’t stop? I stopped. The hour round-trip detour took me to Nubble light.
I scanned the rocks and the rooftops. Not an owl to be seen.
Just this Canada Goose being harassed by the gulls.
Until finally he decided to give up his perch.
A running start.
And he took off in flight.
I left disappointed, but that disappointment was easier to accept than wondering if I’d missed something wonderful.
