I’ve felt oddly disconnected from nature lately – likely due to the colder weather and my schedule keeping me indoors. With the storm debris blocking our road gone, and the electricity finally back on, Hannah and I headed out for a rare walk in the woods.
While our hikes are usually a steady pace, today, we meandered.
Taking in the sights.
And the sounds. Birds calling, Air whistling in the trees. Squirrels complaining at our intrusion.
Feeling the breeze which was thankfully mild this afternoon.
The waves, lapping at the rocky shore, were wonderfully soothing.
Finding little treasures encased in ice. As usual, Hannah found a handful of sea glass and collected rocks to test in her tumbler.
Watching the water ripple in and out.
Spotting patterns.
Feeling at peace in the quiet of the woods.
What a wonderful day you and Hannah had! I hope to get out more this winter. It’s just so easy to stay inside and hunker down! Happy New Year! Jan in MA
A Southern California gal, I could not identify those round pods in the tree. Can you tell me what they were?
They are burls. It’s when the tree grain has grown in a deformed manner. Kinda of cool!
