Hannah arrived this morning with plans to spend the day doing whatever I wanted and cook dinner for me. She brought this beautiful bouquet. I think she was as excited to give it to me as I was to receive it. It was spectacular – created by our friend Christina at Kvetina Gardens and Wildscaping.
Paul’s gift of breakfast out – that we’ll do later in the week – came with this cute little owl. I’ve named him Grumpy Owl.
My greatest desire today was to get the porch prepped for outdoor weather. Hannah and I unloaded the porch, scrubbed the deck, and hung the screens. This is the third year we’ve used these screen curtains to create a happy little oasis, and they’re still in good shape. We Added the screen curtains when COVID hit, and we ended up in lockdown for the spring.
My new addition to the porch this year is this outdoor daybed. It arrived earlier this week – some assembly required. Paul came to the rescue on that front, and we moved it outdoors today.
I’ve longed for a sleeping porch. While I’m not sure I want to share the outdoors at night with raccoons, foxes, bobcats, and bears, I can envision some great daytime weekend naps out here.
Determined to spend Mother’s Day on the porch together, we enjoyed our lunch and settled in.
By mid-afternoon, settling in required blankets, it was so chilly. We lasted an hour or two before giving up and heading indoors.
Hannah’s home-cooked surf, turf dinner, and cake rounded out this delightful day.
Sounds like a lovely day, despite being chilly.
