On Saturday, Hannah and I ventured to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. This visit is the latest in the season we’ve enjoyed together. Autumn is unveiling with trees beginning to turn and faded grasses rustling in the breeze. Much of the summer glory had faded, but there was still much to see.
Some of the flowers were slightly past prime.
Other spots were lush with late summer color.
I so enjoy the whimsy in the children’s garden, which is just as much a delight for adults.
There were so many colors and textures.
Art pops out in unexpected places.
Hannah and I delighted in the many subjects to photograph.
The Dahlias were spectacular,
the floral highlight of the day.
There were pollinators everywhere.
Honey bees on Asters.
Honeybee on pink – I’d love to know the name of this flower!
Bumblebees on orange.
A Monarch on orange.
And late-season Monarchs – this is possibly my favorite photo of the day.
An American Lady with a Monarch in the background.
The American ladies were out enforce.
Frogs lingered in the pond.
A cloudy morning perfect for photographing flora turned into a beautiful sunny afternoon.
This year the gardens welcomed giant trolls created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Hidden throughout the woods, they added a bit of magic to this lovely day with my girl.

Susan, I think that pink flower might be Butterfly Stonecrop.
That does look like the flower. Thanks!
