I knew it was snowing last night because the outside security camera kept going off. I thought it was the return of the bear, but the snow was the culprit.
Snow is pretty common in early April – like the 8-10 inches of snow we got in 2014. And then, last year, the hummingbirds arrived in snow showers.
I like all of the seasons, but after such a glorious weekend last week, this feels a bit rude. However, there’s something pretty about the open pond when there’s snow on the ground.
After a quick dip, Murphy and Doodle decided to head home.
This robin found some bare ground under the spruce tree.
Tiny legs for such a rotund body.
The deer wondered why the grass they’d been enjoying disappeared.
Finch among the lilac buds.
I felt sad for the birds, so I poured a cup of birdseed onto the feeder tray.
Here’s hoping they eat it all, so there’s nothing left for the bear.
It looks like about two to three inches of heavy wet snow.
Luckily it seems to be quickly melting.
After an initial early morning walk, I headed back home for my macro lens.
I love to see the detail that we often miss.
A faded birch leaf.
Reflection in a water drop.
A tree bud encased in a drop of melting snow.
The beauty of a budding tree.
Tree blossoms in contrast against the snow.
Thawing Red Maple blossoms – I think! If you know for sure, drop me a note!
Red-fruited Pixie Cup Lichen – what a fun name.
Budding fir.
An hour’s romp in the woods on a snowy day, and I managed to bring a tick in with me. Spring is definitely hiding under this blanket of April snow!
I love your beautiful photos. Spring snow is always so pretty. We, too, had snow last night – just enough to cover the grass.
The thing about spring snow is you know it may be the last!
I love all your pics of nature and your creative insights. I think I found a soul sister. LOL.
