My first felt ornaments were the family of owls that grace the top of my blog. I had such fun creating those that in January 2012, I designed my first bird pattern – the Black-capped Chickadee. Since then, I’ve designed and shared (for free download) 207 felt patterns. Frankly, I was shocked by that number when I counted them!
Creating these patterns is a hobby – one that is fueled by the notes I receive from readers who have used my designs. Knowing that others have enjoyed these birds and critters warms my heart.
Yesterday, on Christmas night, I received a note from Mary in Hampton, Virginia, sharing that she’d been using my felt patterns to stay busy during the COVID lockdown.
Mary wrote, “I have made most of your designs as one-sided ornaments, and this year my Christmas Tree (I call it my Covid tree) is filled with your creations that I made.”
With Mary’s permission, I am sharing her work. Her COVID Christmas tree of birds is stunning – followed up with a mantle filled with sea creatures.
Just delightful, Mary! Your note and images are a wonderful gift. Thank you!
Love working with felts. You have some amazing birds and sea creatures. Enjoyed.
Awesome
That tree is so pretty and the patterns are so well executed. I have only made one bird from your patterns and this work inspires me to get going on more! What a testimony to the art and technique you have shared with so many! Thank you!
Oh my word! What a beautiful tree! Thank you so much for all the patterns you share with us…I’ve made a BUNCH, most of which I’ve given away, but I’m pretty sure I can’t compete with Mary in the “volume” department. 🙂 Thanks to you and Mary for sharing her Christmas decorations. –Happy (remaining) holidays!
This is a delightful tree and a wonderful project. Thanks for sharing it.
Mary has done what I so want to do! It is stunning.
I recently found your blog and you are so generous with your patterns, and they are all so beautiful too. I will be making the blue jay soon. This COVID tree is a stunning representation of your generosity and the beauty of your patterns. Thank you!
Wow, this is so awesome! I’ll have to get to work. 🙂
Wow! Mary’s tree is amazing! What a wonderful way to pass this “covid” time! Thank you and Mary for sharing! Happy Holidays! Jan in MA
My seventeen-year old daughter is a nature lover. Covid cancelled dozens of activities she had been looking forward to and left her spending her senior year of high school at home with her parents. She made the best of it and took up bird watching and nature photography. 2020 was the year of the birds for us. They brought joy in a difficult time. I wanted to incorporate birds into our Christmas celebration somehow. When I found your amazingly beautiful and accurate bird patterns we were both delighted! I made ornaments of 9 of the favorite birds we discovered. When we took the Christmas tree down, we decided the birds had to stay, so they migrated to an artificial ficus tree in the living room. Thank you so much for sharing your patterns!
I glad you’ve made good use of the patterns this last year! It sure is a tough time to be a student.
The tree is so gorgeous a true work of art and so happy. Such a great idea for such a tough time in all our lives!! Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful pictures!
