curtain for the porch

I’ve so enjoyed working from the deck since screening it in last month.  I’ve been researching roll up blinds for the porch but decided they’re just not in my budget. A search through the linen closet revealed one old curtain panel (just one). A couple of old cafe curtain rings, and I’ve got an easy way to create a bit of shade. One isn’t enough. Facebook friends had excellent suggestions, including canvas painter’s tarps and sheets.

I dug out an old twin flat sheet and pinned it up in place of the curtain panel, but it felt too not stylish.

I liked the curtain effect and found these two panels at the Christmas Tree Shop for $7.99 each. They appeal because they don’t block the view, but filter the sun out a bit.

In front of the lounge chairs at the other end of the porch is another spot that sometimes needs a bit of shade. I’ve decided that my “found on the side of the road” table is going to live here – ultimately with a makeover (maybe a weathered gray).

I hung the twin sheet but didn’t like the way it blocked the view. I turned it into a rudimentary balloon shade by attaching two rows of cafe hooks – one at the bottom and one midway up the sheet. With three runs of string, I can raise them or lower than as needed. This isn’t a permanent solution, but it’s working for the time being.

Inspiration hit, and we decided to add hanging lights. Two boxes ($10.99 each) from the Christmas Tree Shop did the trick.

A couple of sale wall hanging art pieces,

a few new pillows and rug,

dog bed for the porch made from a chair pillow

and a pretty little pad for Gidget rounds out the porch enhancements.

Hopefully, the happy glow of the porch is enough to keep away the raccoons, bears, fox, and coyotes. It’s such a cheerful spot – my favorite place to be – second only to the beach. Porch perfect!
