My favorite thing about my disorganized, overgrown, under-tended flower garden is the Korean lilac mom gave me years ago. Planted from cuttings, they’ve grown into lush 4′ bushes circling my birdfeeder. It blooms for all but a week in June.
For one glorious week, I enjoy the sweet scent along with a host of pollinators – bees, butterflies, and moths.
A Lulworth Skipper.
A pair of Silvery Checkerspot Butterflies.
An Aphrodite Fritillary Butterfly (I think!).
I especially look forward to the hummingbird moths.
Their wings look like little window panes.
They remind me of tiny fairies sipping from tiny cups.
I must have taken a couple of hundred pictures trying to get them in flight bouncing from bloom to bloom,
proboscis curled.
2020 was the year of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly.
At times there were a dozen flitting about the yard.
It’s sad to see the lilac fading. With any luck, the Lupine will hold on until Lavender blooms!
Beautiful photos – I especially love the ones of the hummingbird hawk moths
