One of my favorite events of the year is when the Hummingbirds return. It’s as clear a sign of spring as we get here in Maine. The boys returned the weekend of May 11. I saw my first little guy buzzing around the other bird feeders, so I rushed to get a nectar feeder out.
This unused plant hook outside the kitchen window has been a prime resting spot for them. I love the little red feathers – they look like little scales flashing in the light.
He looks a tad bit grumpy.
And then this weekend, the girls returned. As flashy as the boys are, the girls are my favorite with their lighter green color and pale bellies.
And then the aerial acrobatics began.
Zipping to and fro past the widow, the rain didn’t slow them down.
Let the fun begin!
A fan of your felt creations and hummingbirds here in Iowa! Hint! Hint!
I feel the same way about Cardinals. I find the female far more beautiful with her soft beige coat with just the faint trace of red. The male is just to loud and showy for me.
