One of the highlights of my trip to Ohio and Pennsylvania was photographing Bluebirds. Tucked in the woods I don’t have the wide open spaces they like, so I’ve only seen one over the years at my feeder.
This guy was spotted on the Bio Reserve at Denison University when Hannah and I were out exploring.
These bright spots of blue were enjoying the bird feeder at my mom’s in Hampden Township, PA.
I’m pondering putting up a bluebird house for next season and testing my luck!
It would be good to find out what they are feeding them. It looks like suet pellets. Here in PA I feed them dried mealworms, and in the winter they will even eat the sunflower seed but it must be the chips, not whole seed.
I raised mealworms to get Bluebirds to come to my neighborhood. They really like the live ones. I started this about 30 years ago with 2 nest boxes with a plexiglass feeder with openings that they could enter to get the mealworms. Now we have 3 nesting in each box each season. Beautiful sight to go out in the mornings and see that beautiful Bluebird flying around.
