Traveling down a country road on my way to work – blueberry barrens on one side, woods on the other, I experienced a “first” this morning that kept me smiling all day.
Dancing and strutting across the road was this little Timberdoodle (a.k.a. American Woodcock). I drove around him before pulling to the side of the road. Getting out of the car I managed to snap this single photo before a passing car scarred him off into the woods.
As soon as I saw the long beak and distinctive strut, I knew it was a Timberdoodle (here’s one I created from felt a few years ago).
If you’ve not had the pleasure, watching will surely bring a smile to your face (check out this YouTube video)!
Oh how cute! I didn’t know that a Timberdoodle was a woodcock. I’ve never seen one.
I didn’t realize what a distinctive strut they have! I learned something new today! Thank you!
