I can’t tell you how much I enjoy that rare moment where I can sit on the sofa and enjoy the show outside the window. Nature really does provide the best entertainment.

The squirrels who were eating me out of house and home before the new feeder pole are persistent little things returning every day to check out the lay of the land.

scoping out th esquirrel baffle

Over and over, they climb the pole,

a baffling squirrel baffle

and are befuddled by the baffle. My squirrels are either none too bright because they keep checking out the baffle – or I have a lot of squirrels.

turkey at the bird feeder

This turkey hen has been a visitor the past few days competing with the squirrels for the dropped seed.

beautiful turken hen

She is oddly beautiful with the splendid variations of color in her feathers.

turkey camoflaged

Turkeys are well designed for camouflage. (Notice the pond in the background partially defrosted!)

dark eyed junco in hand

Sometimes we don’t coexist well with nature. This little Dark Eyed Junco flew into the living room window the other day. As I moved her to a safe place to recover I couldn’t help but linger for a while with her in my hand. She was wonderfully soft and light. Most interaction with nature is done from a distance. It was a treat to hold her even for just a short while.
