On my drive home tonight I spied a Great Egret on the salt pond next to the river. She had the company of a Great Blue Heron until I pulled over to snap photos.
She stood so still in the landscape as if hiding in plain sight.
In a flash she snagged a fish.
And took off in flight.
Gliding over the marsh.
Landing on the marsh grass to enjoy her dinner.
Spotting this egret and a heron earlier in the week reinforce that winter is slowly loosening her grips on us and spring is taking hold. Our warm weather visitors are returning.
This was Sunday’s unexpected visitor. I managed just one picture as this Great Blue Heron took off, unimpressed with our little duck pond.
What beautiful birds. Our spring is starting off very slow too.
