Sometimes it’s the truly mundane that catches my eye. The other day, when I was wandering the Incredible Edible Milbridge Market Garden, I spied this absolutely stunning cabbage. Yup, a cabbage. Somewhat ordinary, but so beautiful in shape and color that I had to stop and snap a picture.
At first glance, before you look too closely, you simply see a most unusual bloom.
Incredible Edible Milbridge is a project I am involved with through my work at the Women’s Health Resource Library here in town. Framed after Incredible Edible Todmorden in England, we have 25 vegetable gardens throughout town – including the 14,000 sq.ft. Market Garden where I found this cabbage. The herbs, veggies, and fruits are free for anyone to harvest and use – regardless of socioeconomic status. IEM is all about encouraging folks to eat healthier and to promote food security.
If you find yourself in Milbridge, stop by and visit our garden, enjoy some veggies, and pluck a few weeds while you’re about it!
