The late afternoon shadows hid this critter from view. More focused on not getting stuck in the snow and mud than in my surroundings, I wasn’t even sure it was a deer until I pulled out my camera and studied her through the zoom.
She gave me but a moment to snap these pictures through my dirty windshield before she was off. I’ve never before seen a piebald deer like this. She had excellent camouflage for the crazy winter we’ve had!
We have a set of twins like that in our neighborhood. Very interesting, and shocking to find, as you know.
How fantastic that you were able to get a photo! She is beautiful! Her coloring may be Leucism.
We have had birds at the feeder with color variation with unnatural white in them. I consulted with an Audubon expert who told me the term and that is occurring more and more in all species. It is some sort of pigment cell variation.
Wow, what an incredible picture reminds me of a dalmatian
What a wonderful opportunity for you to see one of nature’s unique creations.
She is so pretty. Thanks for sharing these pictures.
My Grandfather use to plant a half acer of sweet peas for the deer. He had some land with a few acer pond. He loved to watch the deer come out to eat. Here in southeast Charlotte I live in a block of 4 main rds and its a pretty large area. There are woods behind my house and a pond beyond the woods. We have had twins born for the last 6 years! We have everything except those things with a white strip! lol I need to get another big mineral salt block they love that and so do all the critters! I am really going to enjoy your channel. I’m disabled from a wreck 15 yrs ago at the age of 48. I have good days and bad days same with my nights! But I’m alive! Thanks for your lovely post!
I’m happy it brings you a bit of joy.
